“Still amazed it’s not made it into Harden’s – this seafront and vaguely art deco gastropub offers some of the most glorious views in Kemptown and the food is great. Owners Simon and Alan are characters and add real personality”, delivering “good-quality home-cooked pub food in pleasant surroundings and an excellent Sunday lunch”. Top Menu Tips – “seabass with a chorizo cassoulet; lamb is the best roast. Make sure you‘re hungry though – portions are large!”

For 35 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).

"The Bristol Bar is one of Brighton’s hidden gems, especially if you’re after a charming local bar with comforting food, and a proper seafront atmosphere. Tucked away in Kemptown, it has a warm, old-school interior, friendly service, and stunning sea views that make it feel a little more special than your average pub. We’re particularly fond of their Sunday roasts, with generous portions, perfectly cooked meats, and standout cauliflower cheese! It has a nice hearty British classic feel with homemade and satisfying food. The décor gets a lot of love too; wood panelling, a cosy traditional pub feel, and large windows looking out to sea give it a timeless Brighton character. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in for a long lunch or relaxed evening drink and genuinely enjoy the setting. Overall, The Bristol Bar is one of our favourite places for in Brighton with a bit of charm and personality. Its definitely worth a visit!"

"Lovely sea views and a relaxed room (mercifully strict on phones and noisy kids). Excellent smoked mackerel pâté and a hearty, well-stocked fish pie. Charming, hands-on owners. A very enjoyable lunch."
