This “outstanding” four-year-old is an “engaging but cramped little venue” whose “absolute bargain of a menu” from co-owner Johnnie Crow (ex-Harwood Arms and Anglo), makes it “well worth the trip up to Hackney (booking essential!)”. The meal is structured around one type of meat each month – chicken, game, wagyu – to minimise waste, and “service is personal, enthusiastic and charming”. “You’re unlikely to find much better value in town, with some truly stellar dishes given the mid-range price-point”.

It certainly rates mention – chef and co-owner Johnnie Crowe (ex Harwood Arms and Anglo) delivers some delectable, small plates from a seasonal tasting menu. The endearing no-waste ethos incorporates a focus on a single meat for six weeks at a time.

"Please change address: Nest is now located at Old Street! Food was excellent, quality comparable to a starred Restaurant. The whole set-up and service is of course not comparable to the 3 star places I visited in the same week, but in a blind test Nest would be close to equal. Good value for price, particularly the wine pairing with very interesting wines (more appealing than the expensive pairing at Core)."
