Harden's says
The rooftop restaurant at one of the capital's grandest new openings, the Peninsular London by Hyde Park Corner, a branch of the landmark Hong Kong hotel, is under the culinary direction of Claude Bosi, the Lyonais-born chef behind Bibendum in Chelsea. The menu is described as contemporary European; the name comes from the famous racetrack (and now motor museum) in Surrey.
Harden's survey result
Summary
Occupying a prime rooftop location at the lavish Peninsula London hotel just south of Hyde Park Corner, with “stunning views (especially from the balcony)” – Claude Bosi’s dazzling two-year-old is a “real treat” of an all-rounder. The kitchen is run by long-time Bosi right-hand man Francesco Dibenedetto, who is “absolutely at the top of his game”. Price-wise, “it helps if you’re rich – this is oligarch country, which is a shame given the culinary skills on display” – but the offering does include a number of set menus at various price points (“the Concorde set menu – £65pp, lunch only – looks minimalist, but includes a couple of pre-starters and a couple of amuse bouches after the dessert”).
Summary
“Love Claude Bosi and there are superb views too!” – two highpoints at this September 2023 debut, which occupies the glam rooftop of the swanky Peninsular London: the newly opened outpost of HK’s oldest hotel, just south of Hyde Park Corner. Gastronomically, Bosi is acclaimed in one or two reports for having created “the best of the new restaurants open this year” with “first-rate” modern cuisine that’s “creative and flavoursome”; and with service to match. The “unusual” interior design generally gets the thumbs-up, but “is perhaps a touch corporate”; and “the layout of the room means some tables are unable to make the most of what is otherwise a fine outlook over Hyde Park”. Top Menu Tip – “at £58 per person, the ‘Concorde Lunch Menu’ offers unsurpassed value (albeit no expensive ingredients)”.
Summary
When it opens in September 2023, this rooftop restaurant promises to be one of the capital’s glossier debuts in recent times. It’s on top of the Peninsular London – a branch of the landmark HK hotel, overlooking Hyde Park Corner (right next to The Lanesborough). The kitchen is under the culinary direction of Claude Bosi, the Lyon-born chef behind Bibendum in Chelsea, who will provide a contemporary European menu. Let’s hope the cuisine really takes off… unlike the model of Concorde, which it is promised will soar above the heads of diners on the outside terrace.
For 34 years we've been curating reviews of the UK's most notable restaurant. In a typical year, diners submit over 50,000 reviews to create the most authoritative restaurant guide in the UK. Each year, the guide is re-written from scratch based on this survey (although for the 2021 edition, reviews are little changed from 2020 as no survey could run for that year).
