Another site from Tom Sellers, of Restaurant Story, who also opened Story Cellar in Covent Garden in April 2023. In a prime location on the junction of Piccadilly and Berkeley Street, it is part of the new 1 Hotel Mayfair, the 1 Hotel group's first UK hotel; opened July 2023.

Tom Sellers’ magic seems to be most notable by its absence in this celeb-chef-branded venue: the dining room of a much-hyped new hotel, which opened in a prime site opposite The Ritz in summer 2023. That’s not to say it’s completely lacking fans, with one or two reports hailing “the best meal of the year” and cuisine that’s “seasonal, playful and thoughtful” in an “amazing venue, with a beautiful terrace”. And the “wide-ranging wine list” has some “really unusual offerings and sensible-but-exciting possibilities” that are “not crazily priced”. Even so, a concerning proportion of reports here are of disappointment, noting OTT prices and “poor service”: e.g. “a very basic meal that cost nearly £300!! Ouch! The room was nice but that’s about it!”. (And, oddly given Sellers’ huge media profile, most of the major press critics have remained silent about the place despite having had a year to pop along).

Summary

Part of a swanky nine-story hotel that opened in summer 2023, primely located opposite The Ritz (on the junction of Piccadilly and Berkeley Street), this Mayfair newcomer is another recent initiative of Tom Sellers (who also opened Story Cellar in Covent Garden in April 2023). The launch is the UK’s first from a luxury international chain whose styling includes lots of plant-filled spaces. According to the website, the dining room features an ‘abundant raw bar’ and is ‘grounded in a deep respect for seasonal, organic, and locally sourced ingredients’. One heavily trailed feature: two dessert trolleys dispensing customisable, ‘curated’ knickerbocker glories, named ‘Apollo One’ and ‘Apollo Two’.

"Dovetale On Saturday we enjoyed a fabulous brunch at Dovetale a restaurant set on the ground floor of the 1 Hotel Mayfair. The food was delicious , the service was very friendly and there’s also a very relaxing atmosphere so when you put all this together it’s an ideal way to start your weekend. The restaurant s under the name of two michelin star chef Tom Sellers and they have a very good team including head maitre’d and my good friend Matthew O’Connor who along with the amazing Sylwia leads the very friendly team perfectly. The restaurant is situated on Dover Street which is only a couple of minutes walk from Green Park Underground Station. We entered and received a lovely warm welcome before being escorted to our table. We had a great view of the bar , the restaurant and the outside terrace. The restaurant just like the hotel is all about no waste and they also do a lot for the local community. The menu which can be designed to be shared consists of oysters , eggs , small plates , main courses , sides and desserts. There is also the option of a brunch set menu and you can choose items from either menu. We started with the Shakshuka , Moroccan style baked eggs. This was followed by the mains of the House Cobb Salad with crispy turkey , bacon , avocado , blue cheese and tomato , the Waygu Cheeseburger with smoked pickles , 1000 island dressing and fries. Off the set menu we chose Sylwia’s recommendation of the Herb - Fed flat iron Chicken with chilli , garlic , lemon and fries. Every dish was delicious and cooked perfectly. After a nice break and a chat with Sylwia and Matthew it was time for dessert and to create your very own Knickerbocker Glory. You get to choose tour choice of ice cream , sauce toppings and of course cream. Mine was made the Matthew himself and it was absolutely delicious. We finished our drinks before heading off thanking the team for a fantastic afternoon. I really would recommend a visit to Dovetale because you get to enjoy fabulous food and service in a very relaxed environment something that’s not easy to find in Mayfair. They are planning to bring back the Sunday Lunch a bit later in the year which is something I will definitely return for if I don’t go back earlier. Thank You Matthew , Sylwia and all the team for your hospitality and look forward to seeing you again soon."
