Thirteen is a contemporary fine dining tasting menu restaurant specialising in modern British cuisine. This is a family run restaurant with Alex as Head Chef and Frances responsible for Front of House, whilst Hem is sommelier and co-owner with Elisabeth. The restaurant is designed to provide comfortable seating for 20 diners at 6 tables and 2 more seats are available at the Chef's table to provide an intimate experience at the heart of the open kitchen. Since opening on 13th September 2023 our guests have commented on the great atmosphere and harmony that is evident.
We opened our doors on 13th September 2023 and were listed in the Michelin Guide in May 2024 and have retained into 2025. We won ‘Restaurant of the Year’ both in the Poole Business Awards and the DMB Tourism Award which covers Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
The Thirteen team strive to provide a fine dining experience for our guests from a warm welcome through to exceptional food and wine. The team can tailor the menu to accommodate allergies and dietary requirements given sufficient notice. The chefs take great pride in delivering each plate to our guests providing a description of the food and are happy to answer guests questions. Head chef Alex is an avid forager, and his style of food includes professionally foraged mushrooms and edible wild herbs.

The chef
Head Chef Alex Naik was awarded the accolade of Dorset Chef of the Year in 2018 when he was at Abbots Court, Winterborne Kingston, where he also gained 2 AA Rosettes. In the last five years he has also worked as interim Head Chef at Shell Bay Restaurant, Studland and has developed his passion for foraging and fishing. Lockdown also gave him the opportunity to create and experiment, adding to his culinary portfolio. Alex has experience garnered in restaurants around the world and applies his knowledge of these diverse cuisines to his own creativity using classic techniques. He also has a particular passion for fishing, foraging and growing his own produce. Being a skilled photographer he has a keen eye for presentation.
Alex has a great team of chefs – Stephen, Ion and Marcus - who bring their own skills with them contributing to the creation of the dishes. All the chefs are involved in the presentation and delivery of plates to diners at the table and are more than happy to answer guests’ culinary questions!
