Bath chef shaves prices to boost trade

Highly rated Bath restaurant the Olive Tree has reduced its prices to attract more covers, as hospitality venues grapple with continuing tight market conditions.

Executive head chef Chris Cleghorn’s new à la carte menu offers a choice of two dishes at each of its three courses for £95, with snacks, bread and sweet treats thrown in – a dramatic saving when compared with the Olive Tree’s standard evening tasting menus at £185 for seven courses or £155 or five.

There is no stinting on the quality of the ingredients either, with the à la carte menu offering prime treats such as veal sweetbreads, Newlyn Market lobster, Sladesdown Farm duck and Yorkshire forced rhubarb.

Set in the basement of the boutique Queensbury Hotel, the Olive Tree has blossomed under Chris’s tenure in the past 13 years years, and is described in the 2026 Harden’s guide as “Bath’s most accoladed foodie destination“.
