Spencer Metzger (left in picture) opens his follow-up to the acclaimed Row on 5 next week – Chez Rose, a French bistro taking over the former premises of Little Social in Pollen Street, Mayfair.
Like Row on 5, the new venue is part of Jason Atherton’s Social Restaurant Group. Jason (right in picture) shuttered Little Social in April, almost two years after closing Pollen Street Social, his original flagship on the opposite side of the road.
Spencer has named the new venture after his late grandmother, Rosemary Roth, and describes the menu as “simple and considered, with quality produce, balanced flavours, and technique that allows super-seasonal ingredients to speak for themselves.“
The Essex-born chef spent 12 years cooking at The Ritz under the guidance of John Williams, so classical French cuisine is second nature to him. Jason also cites Henry Harris’s hit restaurant Bouchon Racine as an inspiration.
The kitchen at Chez Rose will be run on a day-to-day basis by head chef Mark Catchpole, previously of Roganic, allowing Spencer to maintain his prime focus on Row on 5, the highest-rated newcomer on this year’s Harden’s 100 list of the UK’s best restaurants.
