New Mayfair spot for refined Turkish cuisine

A Turkish restaurant has opened in Mayfair with the ambition of ‘setting a new benchmark for modern Mediterranean-Turkish dining in London’.

Chargal, from restaurateur Serdar Demir, has taken over the former site of Jeru on Berkeley Street and offers mezze at ground level, a more formal first-floor dining room and a late-night lounge in the basement. The menu is centred around open-fire cooking, presented in a style that blends Turkish heritage with refined Mediterranean flair.

Serdar, who also opened The Mantl on the Brompton Road near Harrods in 2019, describes Chargal as “my interpretation of Turkish cuisine, reflecting my journey from being Turkish-born and raised between two cultures in the UK“.

Signature dishes include a modern take on the yoghurt and cucumber dish kuru cacik (pictured); grilled halloumi doughnuts; and a wagyu Iskender.
