The team behind highly rated Italo-Japanese fusion specialist Angelina in Dalston is to open a bigger, more relaxed pasta and grill restaurant in Shoreditch next week.
Called Osteria Angelina, the venue is in the new Norton Folgate development next to Shoreditch station. It follows in the footsteps of the original Angelina, which opened in 2019 and regularly scores a maximum 5/5 rating for food in the annual Harden’s guide.
Founder Joshua Owens-Baigler and executive chef Usman Haider have developed a new à la carte menu which focuses on fresh pasta served with a Japanese twist (Rigatoni Tomato & Kosho
Tortelloni; Truffle & Kombu; Tagliolini with Mentaiko) and larger cuts grilled over Japanese binchotan charcoal (Skate Wing on the Bone with Sea Urchin Butter; Duck Crown Kabayaki; Aged Porterhouse brushed with Tare). There is also a selection of small and crudo plates (Hamachi Sashimi with Truffle Soy Furikake; Kombu-cured Bream & Smoked Butter; Bluefin tuna Chu-Toro, Ponzu & Rhubarb).
The 75-cover restaurant has an open kitchen, and guests will be able to watch pasta being created in a glass-walled section of the dining room.
The wine list features more than 300 Italian wines and a sake selection from London sake expert Masayo Nuttall. Cocktails will reflect the flavours of both countries, and there will be a wide choice of grappas and Japanese whiskies.
Osteria Angelina opens next Thursday, 20 May, and booking is now open. Discounted pre-opening vouchers are for sale at various price levels, from £25 for a £30 voucher to £1,000 for a £2,000 voucher, to be used by the end of August.
