The duo behind British-Afghan barbecue Cue Point this week opened their first permanent site – in North Kensington, close to the project’s origins as a pop-in west London 10 years ago.
Founders Joshua Moroney and Mursal Saiq have teamed up with the Garden Bar pub near Latimer Road tube station to create The Garden Bar Grill and Smokehouse by Cue Point, with outdoor seating for up to 200 guests and another 60 inside.
Joshua is a former pitmaster and head chef at Shoreditch’s influential Smokestak, so the cooking draws much of its inspiration from Texan barbecue methods, but with Afghan, Argentinian, Guyanese and Brazilian also thrown into the mix, reflecting the founders’ experiences growing up in the capital.
The pair say: “British produce, Afghan flavour, Texan technique: that’s always been the foundation.
“The menu is everything we love cooking: smoked wagyu brisket with Texas naan and saffron butter; lamb shank Kabuli pilau; black lime chicken; korma; seabass, aubergine; skewers. Big flavours, but also care, memory and story in every dish.
“Cue Point has never just been about food. It’s about people, about creating space, about bringing cultures together properly and not just for show.“
