Indian Restaurants in Notting Hill
1. Tandoor Chop House
Indian restaurant in Notting Hill
30 Uxbridge Street - W8
2022 Review: The “incredibly tasty food” at this Anglo-Indian hybrid, in “small but lovely” premises near Trafalgar Square (with a newer offshoot in Notting Hill), draws an appreciative crowd. “It doesn’t have curries, but specialises in tandoori-baked meat”. Top Tip: “you have to order the lamb chops, they’re brutal!”
2. Permit Rooms
Indian restaurant in Kensington and Chelsea
186 Portobello Road - W11
Dishoom impresarios, Shamil and Kavi Thakrar are set to open the first London branch of their successful spin-off chain in Notting Hill's Portobello Road in Spring 2025. Known for its Indian cuisine, the new venue is expected to offer a variety of sharing plates and cocktails inspired by Bombay’s permit rooms (essentially drinking dens during 1940s Prohibition Indian style). The four storey Victorian property, formerly a gin distillery, will house this fourth branch in the formerly out-of-London chain and has taken about £2 million to get off the ground.
3. Empire Empire
Indian restaurant in Notting Hill
16 All Saints Road - W11
This “very enjoyable”, “casual Indian” yearling in Notting Hill is decked out “based on a disco theme” – a nod from founder Harneet Baweja (behind Gunpowder, see also) to his dancing dad’s ’70s nightlife – and provides a “clean-tasting” and “interesting twist on traditional Punjabi Indian fare”, including “awesome biryanis”.
